EAST RUTHFORD, NJ - The Dallas Cowboys have gotten used to trailing in the first quarter through four games, thanks to a defense that has been relentless.

Unlike the previous two losses against the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Vans, the Cowboys offense was able to respond after the New York Giants opened with a field goal drive on Thursday night. It wasn't always pretty because of a few penalties, but the drive ended with a 15-yard skin pass from Dak Prescott to running back Rico Dowdle to give Dallas a 7-3 lead.

The Giants may have thought the Cowboys should have had a third penalty off the driver. And Jack Ferguson was able to escape the hold while blocking Dowdle.

Prescott completed all nine passes on the drive to 6 different players: Sid Lamb, Ferguson, Brandin Fuchs, Hunter Lupecke and finally, Dowdle.

As a result, the Cowboys held their first quarterfinal lead since the opener, after allowing an opening drive field goal against the Browns, the Cowboys responded with a 6 play, 70 yard drive that lasted 6:55.

Against the Giants, he went 75 yards on 12 plays and took 6:57.

Again in the second quarter the Cowboys called again.

Admittedly, it wasn't a good last week for Lamp, who fumbled, dropped a pass and picked up a penalty during a brief scuffle with Prescott.

All is well until Thursday. Lamb Prescott connected on a 55-yard touchdown in the second quarter as cornerback Deonte Banks ran down the sideline and then saw safety Tyler Nubbin slip.

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. While it looked like San Francisco was getting some good health news, that optimism was tempered by more injuries.

Thursday's practice started with tight end George Kittle (hamstring), receiver DeBo Samuel (calf), left tackle Trent Williams (illness) and quarterback Brock Purdy (back pain).

It was the second straight practice for Kittle, who did not play last week against the Los Angeles Rams. He said he is moving toward a return Sunday against the New England Patriots.

It was also a positive step for Samuels, who practiced for the first time since suffering his injury in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.
